Northern airport infrastructure - Hercules CC-130J capable

This mapping identifies airports in Canada’s high north that are capable of landing a Hercules CC-130J flown by the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF).

The CC-130J is the main transport aircraft used by the RCAF for inter-theatre airlift, which includes supporting Canadian Armed Forces operations in the Arctic.

The map is interactive, allowing for filtering of airports that are closest to the three Canadian Armed Forces Northern Operational Support Hubs  -  Iqaluit, Inuvik, and Yellowknife, whose airbases will service CC-130J flights to surrounding airports.

Destination airports can be further filtered for the availability of jet fuel that can be used to refuel the CC-130J, extending its range and payload; the type of landing – normal vs. assault based on the destination runway's dimensions and type of runway surface, impacting the aircraft's payload; and the maximum allowable payload of the CC-130J at the destination airport.

A technical note explaining how airports in Canada’s high north were identified as capable of landing a CC-130J-30 can be viewed here.
